Social media has changed the way we communicate with one another and for many businesses, an effective and efficient way to market your business. Social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and several others have grown in popularity over the past few years and will continue to do so. Being apart of social media can be helpful for you as a job seeker, networker or business owner.
If you are interested in social media or want to learn more, consider the following social media sites:
1) Facebook- Considered by some to be the number one social media site available, Facebook can be used for business, personal and professional use. With the ability to create fan pages, groups, or personal profiles, Facebook is a great tool to promote your talents, your business and other marketable traits you possess. Facebook is easy to use and is growing rapidly.
2) Twitter- Since being introduced, Twitter has grown into one of the most popular forms of social media available. Twitter has been used for personal and business use and can help you grow your business. Twitter allows businesses to share news stories, press releases and other information rapidly to a massive audience and can be used to find out what people are saying about your business as well. Tweets can be searched and you can easily address customer feedback directly. You don't have to necessarily tweet that you are at a gas station or what you are doing in your personal time but tweeting about your business or blog can help reach several different types of people.
3) YouTube- Over the past few years, YouTube has developed into one of the most popular forms of social media and can help build brand awareness for your product or service. YouTube has grown considerably in terms of the amount of videos uploaded on a daily basis and has helped create brand awareness for several different businesses. Searching within YouTube is easy (it is owned by Google) and can help you find the information or videos you are looking for. Video titles and descriptions can be optimized for content and channels can be set up where people can subscribe to videos you upload about your business.
4) LinkedIn- Not as well known in some areas as Facebook and Twitter but a very good tool for networking, finding business contacts and researching companies. LinkedIn is almost like business version of Facebook where users can find different people at different companies. LinkedIn has an "Get An Introduction" feature which allows people within your network to forward an introduction to other connections and can be used to find information on companies. In terms of a job search, you can sometimes find the name of the hiring manager on LinkedIn or find out who you need to send a resume to.
